Interlaken - Wilderswil - The Chalet Where Rosa Was Born

In an earlier post, I shared a bit of our family story.  Here is where it becomes very real to me.
My great grandmother, Rosa, was a wonderful woman and very dear to me.
She was soft spoken, kind, and very brave.
She came to Canada as a young woman.  She married there and had 10 children.
She was widowed at 52.
She centered her life on her family - and it showed.
I grew up in a legacy of a family that gathered.
I have rich memories of aunts and uncles, kisses and hugs, food and games.
Grandma died at the age of 97 in Canada, but here is where she was born.
This chalet has been in our family for generations.
It holds treasures of history and memories.

This picture still hangs on the wall in the chalet.
Rosa's mother, Anna, is on the far right.  She is my great great grandmother.

When Anna was married, this chest was a wedding gift.
It has remained in this home for the last 120 some years.
Her name and marriage date are inscribed near the top.  Such a treasure!

A fast moving river comes down from the Alps and runs directly behind the chalet.
The covered bridge is considered such a gem that rather than destroy it
to make room for larger boats to pass, a steel platform was built underneath.
The entire bridge raises and lowers on an elevator platform!

Just beyond the bridge is the village church where countless ancestors of ours
were baptized, married, and buried.

It was a tender privilege to experience such a tangible part of our heritage.
